politics:

The Tyranny of Structurelessness - A classic essay by Jo Freeman on the
perils of psuedo-non-heirarchal structures and the lack of accountability,
inefficiency, and frustration that can result. Her end-of-the-article suggestions
are extremely valuable. I've been told that someone wrote an excellent
response called, "The Tyranny of Tyranny," but I've never seen it. Is it
possible that critiques of consensus can get half-way around the world
while consensus-boosterism is still trying to decide which boot to put
on first? This is online on the excellent anarchist "Spunk" site, which,
if you travel up several levels, has an extensive and impressive anarchist

Papal
Bull Romanus Pontifex (Nicholas V), January 8, 1455; The bull Romanus Pontifex
is an important example of the Papacy's claim to spiritual lordship of
the whole world and of its role in regulating relations among Christian
princes and between Christians and "unbelievers" ("heathens" and "infidels").
This bull became the basis for Portugal's later claim to lands in the "new
world," a claim which was countered by Castile and the bull Inter caetera
in 1493.
